This is how 2 referees rated Pete:
I am a dedicated and patient tutor, who believes firmly in guiding my students in the appropriate direction so that they might discover the subject rather than pushing them there. I hold a PhD in Renaissance literature, a Masters in research and a first class degree in English, as well as a postgraduate certificate in the management of learning and teaching. I am also a level two cricket coach, and have published widely on music and cricket, as well as in my academic field.
I am particularly skilled at assisting with essay crafting, writing styles, editing, research methodology and close reading.
I have been an active educator for over twenty years, first teaching music at the London Music School, both one-to-one and in classes, before graduating to higher education. I have lectured in English at Goldsmiths College, Sussex University, Brunel University, Central School of Speech and Drama, and Queen Mary, UoL, as well as teaching on the Mla at Oxford University's school of continuing education. While my primary subject has been Renaissance Literature and Shakespeare, I have also taught a wide range of other courses, from poetry to philosophy of science. I hold a valid CRB certificate.
My approach to tutoring is student-centered. I aim to guide my students so that they might make discoveries themselves, rather than feeding them a pre-ordained set of 'answers'. This, however, ought not to be taken to mean I am lax on grammar, spelling, style and syntax. English as a subject is as much predicated on writing as it is reading, and clarity of expression is a vital part of a student's success - the act of writing also aids comprehension.
