This is how 2 referees rated Peter:
I currently work at The University of Birmingham as a Post Doctoral Research Associate in the field of drug discovery. Aside from this work, I have been tutoring on and off for the past 2 years or so and find the whole process enjoyable and very rewarding and is something I would like to continue with in the future. I'm pretty easy going with a good knowledge of my subject.
Over the past few years I have gained extensive experience in tutoring and teaching. I have worked within a highly regarded private college in the Edgbaston area, giving both A level revision classes to up to 10 students as well as one-on-one tuition and as such I have a great degree of familiarity with the A-level chemistry syllabus, specifically AQA.
I have been undertaking private tuition in this subject area over the last 12 months and have received positive feedback from my tutees regarding my style and ability.
I have also given tutorials in my current role at the University of Birmingham as well as carried out lab demonstration/marking and given direct supervision of MSci and PhD students throughout their projects.
This experiece has given me a good grounding in the area of tuition and helped me to learn how to get the very best out my students.
I have an open approach towards tutoring and very much base my style around the needs of whoever I am teaching. Typically I find the best approach has been one of focussing on specific areas of difficulty and really getting to grips with the basics to ensure a good understanding of fundamental principles. From their, I find confidence building and exam technique are paramount to achieving success within their subject.
