I have three decades of experience as a caring, patient and engaging maths, physics, engineering and science tutor and teacher. I am qualified as a secondary school maths and physics teacher, and a Russell Group university physics professor with150+ scientific publications, and prize awards for science communication, including from the Royal Society and the Institute of Physics.
I am Enhanced-DBS certified and I have been one of the lead governors (lead for the Curriculum) at one of the UK's first two specialist Mathematics A-level schools.
I am thoroughly familiar with the syllabus topics and range of content required for success in physics and maths at GCSE, A-level and KS3 for all the principle examination boards, including; AQA, Edexcel and OCR.
I have extensive experience teaching successful revision and exam techniques both at A-level and at GCSE and in helping students to study and progress towards their best grades in their final exams and assessment points at A-level, GCSE, KS3 and also for International Baccalaureate (IB) and BTEC. I have supported several students to work towards, and successfully to pass, the Eton College Scholars entrance exam.
I have specific experience helping students with special educational learning needs, including students who have had autism, vision impairment and ADHD.
I have a calm, patient, empathy-driven caring & supportive approach to tutoring.
Both in face-to-face and online sessions, I use two-way conversations and discussion to encourage and support each student towards reaching their full potential.
I will adapt each student's and session's delivery style for the specific needs of each tutee, to match their learning needs and engage them with each topic.
I work with each student, initially to identity any areas of weakness or strength, then to design a tailored approach.
Examples of tutorial content often include;
– Weekly help to embed specific homework themes,
– Weekly work towards broader subject understanding,
– Guided past paper question practise,
– Intensive topic revision and exam preparation.
