I am a final-year Materials Science DPhil (PhD) student at the University of Oxford. In 2014 I graduated from the University of Cambridge, with degrees of Master of Natural Sciences and Bachelor of Arts (honoured, First Class). I did Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Materials Science. In my A-Levels, I obtained A* in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
I have had much rewarding experience in working with both university and high school students. Since September 2014 I have been working as a personal tutor for school and university students through First Tutors, on the website of which I am rated 5/5 stars. I find it particularly fulfilling when I identify interests and stimulate a student’s enthusiasm. In 2015 I was one of my company’s Graduate Ambassadors - at local universities, I gave talks on the roles of science and engineering in our lives and in society as a whole, and to encourage young scientists and engineers to apply their knowledge and skills in industry. Now in Oxford, I am actively participating in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Ambassador events to encourage more school students to commit to STEM in the future. For example, I demonstrated Materials Science experiments (e.g. the measurement of Young’s modulus) to sixth form students. In our Department of Materials, I also supported the undergraduate admission interviews by giving tours around the department and offering guidance on the science subjects and Oxford life.
I am good at helping tutees solve problems, e.g. worked examples, past paper questions, and I am happy to adjust as needed. I also help to revise and polish Personal Statements for college application as an additional service, for which I am also a member of a qualified education agency.
