Personal Description:

My interest in language and communication has been greatly stimulated by my life as a classical musician. I studied at The Royal Academy of Music (1978-1982) and my professional career began as a violinist with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (1982 - 89). I then spent 3 years playing with an international orchestra based in Portugal, immersing myself in the language and culture of a new country. Returning to England, I have since free-lanced as an orchestral violinist and private tutor of violin/piano/theory alongside bringing up 3 sons. In 2014, I completed my BA in Modern Language Studies(O.U.) with the desire to extend my tutoring outside music. professional playing. More recently, I rekindled my interest in languages by completing an Open University BA degree in English and French Language Studies.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching violin/piano/theory privately and in schools since 1995, at all levels. I have found the parallels between language and music fascinating and inspirational when teaching. So far my teaching experience of French and English has been confined to primary level but I would like to help GSCE students as I have done with my own sons.

Tutoring Approach:

First and foremost, I want to build a good understanding with any pupil, tailoring the way I teach according to their individual needs and encouraging their interaction.
I am keen to help pupils to extend and develop their skills and understanding by using today’s technological resources as well as more old-fashioned methods.
