Philosophy / Critical Thinking
Hi, I'm a teacher and counsellor with more than 30 years experience in the world of education. I have a proven track record helping people to overcome their own obstacles to learning, find their own most effective learning style and develop strategies for success in academic and social learning. I have worked both face to face and online via Skype using a range of specialist approaches. Sessions are fun, often humorous, but with depth and insight. Each session ends with the principles arising in the session being 'bridged' directly to the experience of the learner.
As well as a successful early and mid career in primary education and Special Needs Education, Paul moved on to gainextensive experience using a range of approaches to improving the quality of thinking and learning both in the context of academic and social learning.
He has spent more than 15 years working in the field of Cognitive Education and Mediated Learning. In that time he has gained qualifications and a depth of experience in Dynamic Approaches to Assessment (Learning Potential Assessment Device and Tzuriel Early Years Dynamic Assessment) and Cognitive Educations/Thinking Skills Programmes such as Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment (Classic and Basic), Thinking Maps, Write From the Beginning and Beyond and Philosophy for Children. Paul is an accredited Trainer in Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment Programme and has presented at International Conferences. He is also an accredited Trainer for David Hyerle's Thinking Maps.
Over the past 15 years, as well as working directly to improve the thinking and learning of individuals, Paul has presented Thinking Skills based Training to Schools across London and to many multi-disciplinary groups (psychologists, teachers, social workers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists). He has also taught at an International Thinking Skills Training workshop in Europe.
Paul has a particular specialism in helping young people and their families to develop and apply thinking strategies in order to manage strong emotions and resolve conflict and holds the Human Givens Psychotherapy/ Counselling Diploma.
Paul is now available for 1:1 Thinking Skills for Learning and Wellbeing and as a trainer/ presenter in schools and businesses in the Edinburgh and Scottish Borders area.
I passionately believe that every individual has the capacity to improve their thinking, learning and performance. Regardless of the individual's age. Regardless of the source of any obstacle they may experience to efficient and flexible learning, with the right quality of intervention they can move closer to their potential. I have spent many years developing my expertise in identifying the nature of the obstacle and providing the intervention necessary for success.
