I am a married father of five children and enjoy tutoring immensely.
Apart from being degree-qualified, I hold a current DBS Certificate and a Safeguarding of Children Certificate.
Although my approach is friendly, I do push people to do well! Sometimes, it's just a confidence boost the student needs.
Employed as a college lecturer, I teach maths and aerospace engineering. As a private tutor, I teach at various levels.
My wife and I home-educate our children, so one-to-one tuition has been a daily practice for me for many years.
I have worked as a Programme Leader with a charity called Action Tutoring, who offer help to pupils struggling with their GCSE preparation. That role involved not only tutoring maths myself, but the supervision of a dozen or so tutors. My team enhanced the grades of almost all the pupils we tutored. Here's their feedback:
"Thank you so much for all your hard work and efficiency...you have been pivotal in making it a real success!" RB, Action Tutoring
Within schools, I have taught a variety of ages, and used to run a youth club.
My approach is friendly and patient. I strongly believe that no question is stupid, and encourage students of whatever age to be confident in asking those questions that they may feel reluctant to ask in a packed classroom. When a student doesn't understand, I try a different way of explaining, and continue until it falls into place. It is they who dictate what they want to learn, and I am there to encourage the learning experience, not lecture them.
One recent student said, 'You've been a pretty cool teacher, and very patient. Thanks for restoring my faith in maths teachers.'
