Current Head of Department and History teacher (KS3 - KS5). I am a young and enthusiastic teacher with a terrific subject knowledge. I am extremely passionate about History and I believe that I have an innate ability to put across complex information in a way that is clear. I am not the kind of teacher that simply teaches from a textbook or writes notes on the board; I try to come up with innovative and memorable methods of teaching that will ensure that students fully understand course content.
However, I always ensure that my lessons are exam-focused; this could be through incorporating keywords at KS3, or planning exam answers at A Level. I have been tutoring for over a year outside of my profession and my tutees have achieved excellent results, with some continuing on to study History at university. My personal specialism within History lies in the History of Medicine; however, I also have a keen interest in the Russian Revolution and Tudor history.
I am currently working as a History teacher and Head of Department at an independent school in Hertfordshire. I joined the school in 2014 and since my arrival the participation in History at GCSE has more than doubled; it is now the most popular GCSE option in the school. I teach all years, from Year 7 all the way up to A Level. I have taught a range of topics covering a wide geographical and chronological scope. If you do not see the topic you are struggling with on the list below please still contact me, as I will no doubt have a good knowledge of the subject area and still be able to help - I will be up front and honest if I don't think I'm right for the job!
Topics that I teach or have previously taught at GCSE include:
Restoration England, 1660-1685
Elizabethan England, 1568-1603
International Relations in the 20th Century (all world history topics from 1900-2000, e.g. Russia, Cold War, Hitler, Civil Rights etc.)
Medicine Through Time
Historical Enquiry (coursework)
Topics that I teach or have previously taught at A Level include:
Russia (any date range from 1855-1964)
Later Tudors (1547-1603)
The Early Modern Witchcraze
Historical Enquiry (coursework)
In July 2016 I also worked as an AQA examiner for the GCSE History Paper 1. As a result I have gained a direct insight into what examiners are looking for and how to jump through the hoops necessary for the A* grade!
I take a unique and memorable approach to tutoring. Ahead of the sessions I will identify a clear line of progression over the weeks and months leading up to an exam. I will aim to target key weaknesses in a student's knowledge and work, which will provide the focus of tutoring sessions. As a gold level author on TES (**Web Address Removed**) I have already built up a wide range of excellent written and digital resources that I will incorporate into my tutoring. Also, as part of my tutoring sessions I will seek to clarify the knowledge that has been passed on in a tutee's class time, whilst revising key dates, events and themes. Fun is at the centre of my approach to tutoring and the ultimate goal is to have students learning key information with a smile on their face.
