Personal Description:

I live in Stratford-upon-Avon, the home of Shakespeare, where I earned my PhD in English from the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham. I still live in Stratford, but am now undertaking a Research Fellowship at Kingston University.

I am available for consultation Monday through Thursday evening, after 5:00 pm.

* For those who are in the process of choosing a tutor, I offer a free 30 minute consultation via Skype to see if my services fit your needs.

Tutoring Experience:

I am a tenured secondary school teacher with half a decade of classroom experience. I have an MA with Distinction in Teaching English from Lewis and Clark College, Portland, Oregon. I also hold an MA with Distinction from Royal Holloway, University of London. I have a PhD from the Shakespeare Institute, University of Birmingham.

I give lectures on Shakespeare for Sovereign Education's A Level Study Days.

I am currently employed by Manhattan Elite Test Prep (specializing in the GRE) and have several years of experience with Test Prep for entrance exams at the secondary school, university, and postgraduate level.

I chair a major seminar series on Shakespeare on behalf of Kingston University and The Rose Theatre.

I am on the staff at Audiopi. I create educational audio courses on Shakespeare plays for A Level students.

Tutoring Approach:

I am interested primarily in working with A-Level students, university students, and postgraduates who need assistance with essays. I am a working academic, currently on the editing board for the Durham University English Review and the Shakespeare Institute Review. I bring my editing expertise to my work on your essays. I provide * detailed * feedback that will improve your marks at any of the top universities. I can analyze your arguments, help improve the logical flow of your essays, and review your source material.

As a teacher, I listen intently and search for the method that is not only most effective, but that draws out what is most original in a student's approach towards their work. This, in my experience, is how students master new skills. It is also how I learn best from my students. As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "the light falls so that only one eye can see."
