Personal Description:

I obtained my first degree in London in 1990, where I worked for many years. However, I found that I was missing my native North Wales, so I returned with my family and enrolled on Bangor University's PGCE course. Ever since, I have enjoyed teaching children and working with families. In my free time, I make the most of living in North Wales, where I go sailing and walking.

Tutoring Experience:

I initially worked in primary education in the state sector, but have been teaching Key Stage 2 in an independent school for seven years. I am now head of the junior school, where I teach. I have enjoyed the challenges that both state and independent systems provide. I work with classes, small groups of pupils and individuals, usually up to the age of 11, with a range of goals, including working towards passing entrance examinations. I have experience of teaching pupils with additional learning needs, which I find very rewarding. I also have extensive experience of teaching pupils from overseas, where English is not the first language, whose parents are on sabbatical or studying at university.

Tutoring Approach:

Some of my pupils are high achievers, with clear aims to achieve ambitious results. Others are children with enormous potential who require the right assistance to achieve their potential, while some simply require the right support to boost their self-confidence and unlock their abilities. I believe in combining modern and traditional methods, tailoring individual approaches to individual children. I believe that education should be an enjoyable experience for all pupils. Most of my pupils are looking to improve their Maths and English skills, though I teach all subjects at Key Stage 2. It is very important to understand each individual pupil and to understand each family's objectives. Education always works best when parents, pupils and teachers understand each other and work together.
