I am a retired and fully qualified teacher. I tutor in English, French, Latin and Music. (Oxford University Department of Education, 1973.) I am a very experienced schoolmaster and have held many positions in preparatory and senior schools, including senior teacher, housemaster and headmaster. I am happily married (to a schoolteacher!) and have three grown-up children. I am also a musician (Oxford University, 1970 - 1973) and I teach the piano and the organ from beginners to diploma level. I have a current enchanced DBS certificate. (Please see First Tutors music site.)
I have been teaching since 1973 and have held many different positions, principally in preparatory schools. I have tutored all over the world, including California, Rio de Janeiro, New York, London and locations in the UK. I have specialised in English, French and Latin and I am a qualified teacher of music. (You can look me up on the music section of First Tutors if you would like further information.) I have written articles for the Daily Telegraph and with regard to French I was for 18 years a member of the department led by Nigel Pearce, the author of the popular French text book, 'So you really want to learn French', published by Galore Park. You will find my name mentioned in the preface to Book 1 and on the back of Book 2 !
I tutor in English (language and literature), French and Latin. I also teach the piano and the organ. I like to think that I am friendly and relaxed but never casual. My tutees seem to enjoy their tutorial sessions and they and their parents have been very complimentary. I enjoy what I do and always aim to make any time with my tutees positive and worthwhile. I believe that instilling confidence is the key to success and while my tutorial sessions are always thorough, they are invariably leavened with a degree of fun.
