Personal Description:

I am a 26 year old master's graduate from the University of Oxford, and I'm an avid and enthusiastic reader. In addition to my academic work, I have co-edited an anthology of visual art and poetry entitled The Echoing Gallery, published by Redcliffe Press in October 2013.

Along with my BA at the University of Bristol I was awarded the Roy Littlewood Prize for best Dissertation performance, the Thomas David Taylor Prize for best performance in the Literature 4 unit (1830-1945), and the Moira Megaw Prize for the highest average mark across the post-mediaeval rage of period work (1500-1945).

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught one-on-one guitar lessons for a number of years, and over the course of my degree I provided private English language tuition to students for whom English was a second language. Last year I acted as an undergraduate representative for the University of Bristol 'InsideArts' Festival, for which I contributed to the 'Voice and Text' and 'Poetry in Translation' workshops. I have previously assisted in after-school workshops on English, Music, and Drama Studies for secondary schools in Gloucestershire. Before moving to Bristol I volunteered as a drama instructor at my local youth theatre.

Tutoring Approach:

Tuition will be focused on the tutee's curriculum, with a view to helping them develop a broader understanding of literary styles and techniques through their key texts. Sessions will be tailored to the individual, with a particular focus on areas that have been highlighted for improvement. Advice on writing style, essay preparation and exam technique will also be given. I encourage tutees to consider their own personal responses to the texts, with a view to building confidence in their own critical ability and to help them take full enjoyment in their reading. Through my degree I have proven a critical understanding of historical and contemporary works of English Literature, and my aim is to share my knowledge of (and enthusiasm for) literature in a relaxed, friendly and stimulating way.
