Personal Description:

After completing a BA Honours degree in French at the University of Bristol, I qualified as a Chartered accountant (ACA) with KPMG, rising to the role of senior manager. My eldest child started having difficulties at school (year 3) which is when my priorities changed and I became a full time home educator and tutor.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been home educating/ tutoring for 15 years now. I have successfully tutored to A level in mathematics and law and to GCSE (and International GCSE) in English language and literature, law, mathematics, accountancy and biology. My children had great difficulty reading and spelling and also struggled with maths but with my help they overcame these obstacles to achieve academic success.
Using a phonics based reading programme and a carefully planned mathematics scheme, progressing from beginners to higher levels, I have tutored pupils from year 1 up to GCSE. I have successfully tutored a number of students for their professional skills tests in numeracy and literacy for prospective teachers (at Edge Hill University).
I have worked with pupils across a broad age and needs spectrum – both children and adult learners. My students have thrived on the kind of interaction and immediate feedback which only a one to one relationship can allow. They normally make speedy progress towards their goals, whatever they might be.

Tutoring Approach:

Lessons are held in a quiet teaching area in the home and parents are welcome to stay for the duration of the lesson.
A structured, yet flexible approach to tutoring is based on the individual student’s capabilities and needs, maintaining a balance between student centred and directed learning. Students are encouraged at a pace suitable to their age, ability and aptitude. I am approachable, supportive and patient and will tailor lessons to each student’s requirements.
I have various time slots available during the day - please get in touch to check availability. Lessons are normally one hour in duration - however I am totally flexible and am happy to offer half hour and 45 minute slots if this is found to be more suitable after the initial lesson.
