I am an experienced primary school teacher who has worked in all stages of the primary school. I have an honours degree from Liverpool university and a PGCE in primary education with a distinction in teaching. I have taught in schools across Angus and Dundee for many years. I am a dedicated professional with a knowledge of how children learn and how to get the best out of each child.
I have 20 years experience of teaching at primary level working across all stages of the primary school from P1 to P7. My experience encompasses teaching children of all abilities including those significantly above and below average, children with behavioural needs and children with additional support needs. My wide experience enables me to reinforce and extend school learning in a positive supportive environment paying particular attention to the specific needs of each individual.
I believe it is of paramount importance to get to know each child as an individual as the strategies and techniques I use will depend on a child's particular interests and needs. By playing to the child's strengths and providing a positive supportive learning experience I hope to develop greater confidence in and a lasting enjoyment of learning. Independence and curiosity are encouraged as well as a sense of discipline and responsibility. Wherever possible, I try to encourage the child to be actively engaged and take responsibility for his/her own learning. My teaching is completely child-centred and a primary level session will typically involve a variety of active, practical and written activities. All sessions will be properly assessed and next steps identified for each child.
