I have over 17 years professional teaching experience including tutoring. I teach KS3 & KS4 combined and Triple Science as well as KS5 Chemistry. I have also led the BTEC level 2 Science in the past.
I am a qualified teacher with QTS and hold a BSc in Science degree. I also hold a Masters in Education which has helped me to have a true understanding of effective teaching methods. I therefore see myself as bringing a true understanding of teaching from experience and learning.
I am an expert examiner with Edexcel and AQA Exam boards. I have an excellent knowledge of the techniques and styles required to do well in exams. I also have an excellent understanding of the different specifications as I have taught AQA,OCR and Edexcel specifications. At the moment I am working on my PhD in social studies which I hope to complete within the next five years. I have an interest in working with young people, supporting my local community andlove gardening.
I am a very experienced Science teacher and tutor. I have worked with students of all abilities, engaging all learners to reach their potential. My teaching experience and professional development have enabled me to have an understanding of the variety of teaching methodologies appealing to as many learning styles as possible (the kinaesthetic, visual and auditory learners).
Teaching is a dynamic profession and I always adopt new teaching methods such as student centred methods and match teaching according to learning needs. This inspires and motivates learners and develops independent learning skills.
I understand that students are different and use a personalised approach to bridge the gaps in content and skills needed to learn more effectively.
I use clear structure and presentation of content through effective use of planned resources and time. I use ICT, visual and verbal presentations hands on demonstrations to meet the needs of each student. I always strive to foster a culture that promotes excellence, quality and high expectations of all students.
I give regular, prompt and meaningful verbal and written feedback to students and parents and action plans that drive measurable improvements. I am also able to identify weak areas and promptly address any challenging areas. This I believe nurtures a lifelong learner who is always responsive to changes in the learning environment.
Just to say well done to all my tutees who sat their GCSEs summer 2018. They all met or beat their expected grades and have all secured places for sixth form studies!
