Personal Description:

I am presently in my fourth year at St Andrews, working towards an MA in English Literature. Having been inspired myself to pursue English literature into further education, I firmly believe that the foundation for any successful student is an engaging and organized teacher. I have had the benefit of many great teachers during my education, both at school and at University, and hopefully I would be able apply both their methods and few of my own within my tutorage. As an avid reader and committed student I have a genuine love for literature, and this affection for my subject should be transferred onto my students.

Tutoring Experience:

Presently, I have no tutoring experience, but what I do have is experience of being tutored, and thus not only do I have a solid grasp on the correct approach for this discipline, but I also believe that can provide some alternative and less traditional methods that will assist you in your learning. Particularly with older tutors, I have noticed that they are often either too disorganized, reliant on their students to make sense of their sporadic insights, or too robotic in their teaching, a style that does not cater for all minds and frankly removes any fun from studying literature. As a student who advocates that discussion and textual analysis serve as the basis for effective learning, my role as tutor would not simply be to provide you the answers, but to guide you as you develop your own literary voice and understanding.

Tutoring Approach:

Depending on the level of the tutee, the services I can provide range will differ: for my younger students I will focus on improving their comprehension and essay writing skills, aiming to ameliorate their overal literary proficiency. For my more advanced students, I can help with exam technique and to bolster their understanding of their designated exam texts, covering areas that their teachers may have perhaps neglected. I am flexible to cater for any specific requirements, but my teaching will often involve a homework requirement, unless stated otherwise.
