Information About Owen - Cambridge tutor - (8 reviews)
This is how 2 referees rated Owen:
I am a Medical Student at the University of Cambridge. Having recently been through GCSEs then A-levels, I am aware of the challenges facing students at these levels. My teaching is clear and thorough, and patience is one of my strongest qualities.
Medicine being one of the most competitive courses, I offer interview practice and BMAT tuition. I am lucky to be in contact with lecturers/supervisors on an almost day-to-day basis, so I understand what qualities they are looking for in applicants.
I am available all year round during the weekends. The rate is £40 per hour. Please contact me for more information.
Approximately 300 hours of one-to-one tuition.
The approach will always be different depending on your individual needs. Here are some options:
1)Understanding: Always student-specific, I will find the root of each individual problem. Then the resolutions will come in bite-size steps, until we reach the point at which you will wonder why you struggled in the first place!
2)Exam technique: We will go through past papers and mark schemes to discover the skills required to achieve the marks.
3)Motivation: If you cannot see the point in studying, I will show you things that will fascinate you, to keep you on track.

It is very difficult to choose a tutor from the many available when doing so without a personal recommendation. Selecting to travel nearly an hour each way to and from every session wasn’t perhaps, on the face of it, my sanest decision but it turned out to be absolutely right for my 15 year old son. I would do so again without hesitation.
We found Owen to be knowledgeable, calm, a clear teacher (making a difficult subject understandable) and someone with whom a 15 year old can easily connect. Owen had researched the changing IGCSE syllabus for the relevant exam board prior to my son’s sessions and was very clear on what was required to succeed in the IGCSE exam. He presented the material well and structured each session with a recap of material covered previously, extension of the subject and exam practice, as appropriate. Owen is evidently a very talented tutor with the ability to teach many subjects. After five 2 hour sessions, my son left with renewed faith in his ability within the subject. He now feels he has a good understanding of a subject that had baffled him (following a year of poor teaching at school) and is confident that, if he continues the hard work, he can get a very respectable grade in his IGCSE. I find that remarkable.
Realistically, I don’t expect an average 15 year old to be thrilled by the idea of tutoring but my son came out of each session with a smile and feeling increasingly confident. He definitely worked hard but could see the benefit of each session and so attended willingly.
I would recommend Owen as a tutor without hesitation.
Highly recommend him and I am now using Owen for my 13 year old in Math!
