Personal Description:

Hi, I'm currently studying for an MA in International Journalism at City University. I hold a First Class Honours BA in French and Russian from Oxford University and have previously lived and tutored in Russia and France. I specialise in teaching languages, and I can also provide support with general study skills and preparation for school exams.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience of teaching both adults and children, individually and in small groups. I have experience of teaching Russian in Paris, French in the UK and English as a foreign language in Russia (I worked at a languages school for 6 months), France and the UK. I have also provided reading support to Year 3 children.

Tutoring Approach:

I work with my students to achieve the best possible results; therefore, when I first meet a student, it is important to establish a goal, so that I can plan teaching that is best suited to achieving that goal.
When teaching languages, I place a particular emphasis on practising grammar and fluency through speaking, and spelling and accuracy through writing. Regular vocabulary tests are also a key part of learning a new language, and I select vocabulary lists based on each student's individual needs. When teaching literature, open discussions, analysis of selected passages and the assessment of written homework are the main focuses of lessons.
I try to strike a balance between enjoyment and attainment, depending on the age and requirements of the student, with learning through play for younger children.
