Personal Description:

Hi, I'm Oli, a student at the University of Exeter. I'm in my second year of study for a Masters in Civil and Environmental Engineering. During my first year of study I achieved a 1st and received a Deans Commendation for a high overall grade. I've always enjoyed maths and was a regular part of the school maths challenge team. At A level I studied Maths, Physics and Geography achieving A,A,B respectively. After coaching tennis for the last few years to children and teenagers I would like to continue working with young people and tutoring seems a great way of fulfilling this.

Tutoring Experience:

I've now been tutoring since September 2017 and have experience of A-level and GCSE Physics and Maths. I have been a tennis and hockey coach for several years. I am a level 2 qualified tennis coach, with experience leading lessons to all ages and abilities which has a lot of transferable skills to tutoring. I'm able to deliver a well planned and structured lesson that is focused at meeting clear goals in a fun and interesting way.

Tutoring Approach:

I'm happy to take a flexible approach to tutoring to meet the needs of individual tutees. I can deliver regular sessions to clarify and enforce topics learnt at school. Often it can be useful for the student to be taught something in a slightly different way or with a fresh range of examples. Short periods of support before exams can prove really effective, focusing on specific areas of weakness to boost confidence or perhaps create a strategy on how to better approach the exam. Understanding what is actually being asked by the examiner and how the marks are allocated will go a long way to gaining a grade that reflects the students abilities.

I offer the first lesson half price as this is a time for the student and I (and the parents?) to learn what is required of one another and formulate a plan to meet the students needs. Usually this takes up around half of the first lesson and for the second half we can start to do a bit of teaching.
