Personal Description:

I am a motivated and enthusiastic first class PPE graduate from the University of Oxford. I have been teaching private students for four years and have found my age and relatability to be a huge asset in changing minds. I believe that students' achievement is more closely correlated to their mindset than anything else, and I thrive on encouraging students to develop a love for their subject.

I am starting work full-time as a management consultant in 2019 and am teaching privately in the meantime to support travel ambitions early next year.

Tutoring Experience:

4 years of private tuition. Volunteer individual teaching in comprehensive schools in the UK as a language assistant and maths teacher (3 years), and teacher of English and economics in Jaipur, India (2 months).

Client and volunteer experiences:
- Brought a girl from being a total beginner in French to having a solid intermediate level over three years of teaching;
- Mentored struggling maths students to focus on exam technique to bring them from their C/D predictions to get a mix of Bs and As in a comprehensive school;
- Assisted a shy but able girl to boost her French orals to be in line with her A-grade writing;
- Supported a student to gain admission at Surrey's best independent schools including Hampton and RGS Guildford.

Tutoring Approach:

I teach in a highly individualised manner. My contention is that language learning depends on the individual: mathematically and logically minded students, who enjoy and thrive on rigorous understanding of grammar, need to be taught very differently from spontaneous students who find language learning intuitive and need to deploy what they've learned in a practical way immediately. The same can be said for mathematics, where the level of rigour versus intuition depends on the student and their learning style.

In all my teaching I try to help students see beyond exams - even when they're impending and important - to see the latent value in their subject and try to kindle a love for it. This is especially true for languages in mathematics, both of which have a clear inherent beauty which students can discover for themselves.
