I am a professional actor and musician having trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (MA) studied music at Manchester University (BA, Piano, Violin, Bass Guitar) and have A Levels in Music, Drama, English and Classics.
I give academic help and guidance to school students in Music, Drama and English alongside practical acting classes. These can be for school plays where I help children feel more comfortable on stage, to working on drama school audition technique. As an acting student I watched many prospective students audition so can give useful tips and suggestions. I am also a proficient pianist and have worked as an accompanist to musical theatre performers and teaching them how to act through song.
As an academic tutor I have experience with one on one English, Music, Drama and Music Theory (Grade 5).
I have worked on a performing arts summer camp for children aged 8-16 in America, where I directed the summer show (Hairspray) and worked with soloists. I have also worked at Imagine theatre school where young performers work for a week towards a final show. Alongside this I have professional experience in working with theatre companies and devising shows that have been performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Hope Mill Theatre and John Shaw Studio Theatre.
I have also worked with young theatre writers in the development of their work.
Having come from a family of teachers I am aware of the patience and relaxed attitude that is needed for academic tutoring. I want the student to find a new found enjoyment in the lessons that they may not be finding at school.
I have experience in both practical performance of text and also the academic study of it. For an applicant to a top Drama school I work on both as they are both vital. These will include a Stanislavski methodologies, learning how to Action a script, recognising narrative arcs, creating a character and finding relaxation and ease when performing. For another student who is looking to build confidence and learn to enjoy themselves on stage, I use games and fun exercises to work on expressiveness and good communication skills that will benefit public speaking and confidence.
