I am a London born writer and teacher. I teach English at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and I currently have space for a few new private students. I love to help students of all ages to engage with literature and succeed in exams at all levels. I have a background in English Language teaching, having taught EFL for four years, and am currently an Academic English Lecturer, private tutor and teacher of Creative and Business Writing. If you're looking to improve grades, learn how to enjoy study, or books - get in touch!
I started my first degree in Sociology, so I've coached A level and GCSE students through this subject in my private tuition. I also have a 1st class honours degree in English Langauge and Literature and would be a great tutor for anyone who wants to improve their GCSE or A-level grades at this level. I am completing a Masters in English and Creative Writing and Goldsmiths College, and many of my students are adults who just want to explore texts or writing at a deeper level. Because of my background in EFL, I'm an expert in the English language and run monthly clubs for speakers of other languages who want to improve their speaking, reading, listening or writing. Over my in-school career, I've taught Sociology, Philosophy, English Literature and Language, EFL, Academic English, and study skills from ages 16 to 60, from secondary to Ph.D. level, and I'm very proud of my 100% success rate!
I take a very student-centered approach. I like to find a way into the topic that interests my student. For example, last week I taught my adult pre-masters English students how to speed read through a text on amateur journalism. This summer I taught Lacanian philosophical theory to first year BA students via comics. Last month, in a 121 lesson my student and I went into a gym to practice speaking English, and yesterday I taught a 7-year-old how to write a poem by looking at the food in her cupboard. What I do is so varied, I tend to be led by the student's goals. What exams are coming up, and when? What are your current strengths and concerns? How confident is the student in their aims? Finally, how can I realistically bridge the gap between the knowledge the student has and the knowledge they need?
Please note: lessons are from £40, but this may change depending on student aims, level and location.
