This is how 2 referees rated Nigel:
I am recently retired as Senior Lecturer in Education at Swansea Metropolitan University, where I was PGCE tutor in Modern Foreign Languages, involved in training teachers of European languages.
I taught German and French in secondary schools in England and Germany for 17 years, followed by three years as an Advisory Teacher for the county of Wiltshire, before joining the Education Department at Swansea University in 1991 and Swansea Metropolitan University in 2006 until August 2012.
I have written on a range of topics in the field of modern foreign language education, contributing chapters to books, co-authoring journal articles, writing school course materials and reviewing for the Times Educational Supplement. I am reviews editor for Language Learning Journal, the leading professional journal for language education in the UK.
I taught for 17 years in secondary schools, including teaching English in Germany. I also taught in adult education and in a prison.I taught trainee teachers of secondary languages in university for 21 years.
I like to adapt according to the needs of the tutee. If the need is for exam preparation I would concentrate on practising all the skills required. If there is a need for conversation, the approach would be primarily oral. At every stage there would be a mixture of activities, and always plenty of explanation. The whole approach would be informal.
