Personal Description:

I am a qualified English and Drama teacher, I thoroughly enjoy working with children and adults; I have a variety of skills and qualities such as listening, caring communicating, assessing learning and creating stimulating lessons which promote an active and engaging learning . I have a bubbly character, always smiling and making people laugh !

Tutoring Experience:

I have undertaken a professional graduate certificate in education, which has enabled me to underpin theoretical knowledge and understand current learning and teaching strategies. This has allowed me to build an in-depth understanding of the national curriculum and draw up my own schemes of work and lesson plans in order to develop effective methods of planning and teaching, whilst utilising a range of assessment techniques and resources. I believe as a teacher, children should enjoy their learning experience, as well as getting the very best from their learning environment. Thus, I am aware of setting SMART targets for myself and my learners. The use of the SMART targets makes my teaching process effective, productive and the learning experience rich and enjoyable for the learners. I have also structured schemes of work and produced lesson plans with achievable lesson aims and outcomes which will allow me to assess the learning taking place.

In my most current teaching roles, I have been teaching KS3 and GCSE English within secondary schools in the West Midlands and London as a long term supply teacher. I have been planning, preparing and delivering lessons in line with the current AQA GCSE English language and literature specifications. Creating fruitful lesson plans and preparing engaging learning activities using current teaching strategies and learning resources. Instructing and monitoring students’ progress and evaluating their performance through the use of assessments and sitting past exam papers. As well as grading test, assignments, and providing feedback, while maintaining and updating accurate student records (Using SIMS or Eportal).

My teaching style within the learning environment aims to promote independent learning, self-motivation and confidence building within the subject, and this is achieved through giving positive feedback to all learners. Reflective practice helps me to identify areas of improvement, which allows me to see what teaching style is suitable for me and my learners and to be aware of what works well or does not work well in the learning environment. When working with young children, adolescents and their parents I am aware that it is important to be mindful of individual needs, safe guarding, confidentiality, honesty, whistle blowing and promoting equality and diversity at all times.

Apart from my academic background, I also have extensive experience in working with young people from the ages of 1 – 18 years old and further educational learners. I also have experience working with young people with a wide-range of learning capacities and capabilities. For example, I have worked with young adults who have learning difficulties and specific disabilities, this has allowed me to identify and understand different learning needs and how it impacts on everyday tasks within the classroom.

My diverse teaching experiences range from teaching basic Spanish through to teaching performing arts at a drama club to children from the ages of 8 – 14 years old for three years on a weekly basis. This drama club was set up and ran by myself to bring the arts to the local community in Kingstanding and at its peak the drama club had 30 students. My diverse teaching experiences with young children have equipped me with outstanding organisation and communication skills with the unique ability to be confident in managing tough workloads and this will be very useful when presenting work and completing assignments on this course. I am aware of the (ECM) Every child matters, and the roles and responsibilities of the safeguarding children act 1989 and 2004. I believe that each person is individual and has different needs.

Tutoring Approach:

What I offer if your child is KS1/2 :

All lessons aim to boost your child’s confidence by making learning fun and engaging.

The lessons will improve your child`s English skills in grammar, writing, reading to understand, spelling, comprehension, phonemic awareness and creative writing.

The session`s cover all aspects of English that students are expected to learn in school, which will enable them to achieve success in their SAT`s. The sessions are carefully devised so that each student progresses

What I offer if your child is KS3/ GCSE :

Sessions are devised in preparation for students who will be sitting the new AQA English language and literature specification. Grading criteria 1-9

The sessions will enable students to explore English Language 19th, 20th and 21st century texts. Identify how to answer question in paper 1 and 2 of the new specification, using short comprehension questions which are marked on summary, evaluation and comparison of texts.

Students will explore and gain an understanding of Shakespeare, 19th century novel, poetry including Romantics, British fiction /drama since 1914. Students will be given the tools of how to analysis and evaluation these texts for their two English literature exams, also including comparison of two ‘unseen’ passages from studied texts.

The new specifications will be delivered to students in a small group setting, which will promote active and engaging learning. The sessions will enable students to respond confidently to unknown 19th, 20th and 21st century texts, both in Literature and language paper 1 and 2. This will include analysing full length passages, deducing and inferring meaning quickly. Explaining their ideas accurately in timed conditions to achieve success in their exam. The session will allow students to practice in developing the skills of inference and deduction, reflected in higher level thinking and fluent explanatory writing. I encourage parents and students to start developing these skills, when in KS3 to achieve success in the GCSE English exam.
