In 2008, my family and I moved to Singapore where we then lived for 6 years. Having worked in Human Resource Management for over 10 years, with two young children at the time, this was the perfect opportunity for me to change direction and begin teaching, which had always been a dream of mine. To do this, I initially worked in a local school helping the class teacher with phonics lessons to non- English speaking children. I then gained my CELTA qualification (Cambridge ESOL Level 5 certificate in teaching English to speakers of other languages) and subsequently taught English on a one to one basis as well as in the classroom.
Since returning to the UK in 2014, I have completed the Diploma in Education and Training. As part of this 2 year course, I worked as an intern teaching the Level 3 CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development) Foundation course as well as ESOL classes.
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, travelling, pilates and running (sometimes!).
Having gained my CELTA qualification, I worked as a one to one tutor to adults of varying nationalities including Russian, French, German, Turkish and Singaporean. Their requirements ranged from general conversation to business English, preparation for tests such as IELTS, interview preparation, editing websites and PR material plus much, much more.
As mentioned above, as part of my Diploma in Education and Training course, I worked as an intern teaching Human Resources as well as ESOL classes to adult learners. I continue to work as an ESOL tutor on a one to one basis. I also conduct Skype lessons for overseas students or anyone who prefers to work this way.
I teach whatever aspect of English the student requires. This can change from lesson to lesson depending on their requirements. For some students, we may follow a book or a variety of books, others may wish to practise their conversation skills for which I will ensure we have a number of topics to discuss. The choice is entirely up to the student but I will guide them and advise as I see appropriate.
I am friendly and a good communicator and endeavour to make my lessons as varied and as interesting as possible.
