This is how 2 referees rated Nick:
I am first a teacher, I love it, and cannot help to teach. Second I am a scientist and love to discuss and get stuck in with understanding the natural world.
Outdoor pursuits; keen scrambler of various mountains and ridges, lover of mountain biking and road cycling. Very much into repairing and building classic motorcycles, a bit of racing too.
Sci-fi reader and contemplating short story writing too.
Teaching for eight years, I am a qualified teacher with a science PGCE and currently continue teaching full time in a good Birmingham school.
Prior to Birmingham I have taught in Stafford and in Bristol at Cotham High School as a class teacher. Over the years I have taught A level science and maths. I have given time to other local schools teaching after school classes and as support tuition for students who are falling behind .
With the changes to the science syllabus I have been quite involved in exam marking to give all my pupils extra benefit with improving exam technique,
To show the students different ways of approaching questions, use practical demonstration to make things more tangible, teach how to conjecture and hypothesise. With problem solving I can assist the student with a very intuitive process that helps them obtain answers that other students only familiar with a specific process will have great difficulties with if they forget the process.
For pupils wanting simply to pass I focus on exam technique, cross curricular connections, developing key skills, and applied questions.
With the topics of Maths and Physics I help the student to become a much better problem solver. I will provide the student with the right mental attitude for the subject. It is often in topics such as Newtonian Mechanics and Physics a problem for the student to ´Ask the right Questions´ once the right questions have been asked the tools of maths can be used correctly.
Further to this I fully believe that these subjects are very active and a tremendous number of questions help reinforce the thought processing, so limbering up with simple qualitative questions such as ´how far could you see from the top of mount everest´, to begin the class is a beneficial approach.
I also have a little familiarity with memory systems which I rarely use but if it seems useful for student I can help.

After leaving school many years ago the thought of studying maths again was very daunting, Nick has given me the confidence and support to gain a much better understanding in areas of maths I have been finding difficult. I would highly recommend Nick to anyone searching for a maths/physics tutor.
