I am a 57-year-old mathematics graduate, living near Frodsham & working full-time in the chemical industry. I am married with two children in their twenties, both of whom have now left home. I find the tuition of maths a fresh & interesting challenge away from my usual work & I believe that, because of this, my enthusiasm for the subject is transmitted to my students.
I have been tutoring, one-to-one, for 12 years & have also spent time working with small groups of students in a local comprehensive school in the run-up to national exams. I have worked with students of ages ranging from 10 years to 18 years & have also worked with adults on the mathematics units of their university degrees.
During the time I have been tutoring, I have received many cards & e-mails commenting, almost invariably, on my patience. I appreciate that meeting a tutor & starting to work one-to-one may be daunting for some students, especially if they are not confident with the subject. With this in mind, I try to encourage a relaxed informality from the outset, with occasional reminders, if necessary, of why I'm there! I realize that each student is an individual & try to deliver what they (& their parents) want from the sessions. I welcome parents' involvement & will address any particular concerns that they have.
