I hold a BA degree and PGCE in Geography. I have a passion for teaching Geography and ensuring that every child reaches his or her potential. I have taught in both the UK and abroad, and throughout, I have demanded high standards from myself and my students.

Tutoring Experience

I am now recently retired, but have been a Head of Geography and an Assistant Headteacher over a 35 year teaching career. Throughout this time I have taught all key stages and have a wealth of experience of preparing students for both GCSE and A Level exams. My students have have consistently achieved excellent exam results with many going onto to study at Oxbridge and Russell group universities. I am fully aware of the demands of the GCSE and A level specifications and how best to prepare students so that they achieve the highest levels of attainment.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tuition is structured, patient and focused on preparing students for the demands of the examinations they will take. Difficulties in learning can often lead to anxiety and confusion, and the role of the tutor in 1-1 tuition is to complement the classroom approach by helping the student develop confidence in their understanding of the key concepts studied and how to apply their knowledge effectively to exam situations. I seek to develop a good working partnership with students, and students for their part must be committed to reinforcing the gains from the tutorial sessions with practice at home.
