I'm an ex-IT Lecturer & self-employed professional IT Tutor / Actor with many years experience and happy clients. I'm an easy going guy, who has lots of bits of knowledge, and is looking to pass on my IT skills to someone who needs them.
I left FE for many reasons, but the main one was to pursue my acting career. I've been a professional actor since 2011, and apply for paid work via several castings sites, as well as being forwarded for roles via my agent in Cardiff.
I'm currently living in West Wales on a temporary basis, but aim to relocate to Bristol sometime in 2017.
I am also Enhanced DBS Checked until mid 2018 (required for ad-hoc work through an education agency).
19 straight years of teaching in FE colleges / schools / private tuition to students aged 12 upwards, on BTEC National Diploma & First Diploma courses (both IT), and have demonstrated / delivered a wide range of subjects including : Creating graphics using Word/Paint, POV-Ray, MS-Office 2007 & MS-Office 2010, and how to use video editing software such as Videopad Video Editor, Microsoft Movie Maker, and I can show you how to use YouTube to post videos and create your own channel.
I have 18 months contract experience (since March 2012) as a professional IT Trainer with a training agency, training professionals to use MS-Access, plus other Office 2010 applications including Power-Point, Excel, Word, and Internet & IT Security. I have also several years experience teaching private clients (using this site among others) how to use Word, Excel, Power-Point, POV Ray, Paint, Windows 7, Windows 8, File management, and IT Security / Email, Internet skills from total beginners to experienced IT users / advanced, from 12 years to my eldest student who was 78 years young. The elderly are a joy to teach, as it gives them newly-found confidence.
I use my Windows 10 laptop, with Office 2010 Professional installed, as well as having other applications that I use to train learners in the above areas. I should add if you can't see the application that you need tutoring in listed here, then I probably don't know it.
I can also teach theoretical / academic subjects, such as BTEC or 'A' Level courses / subjects, but I cannot give any promise that you will get the grades you desire, as those results are outside of my control.
Like learning to drive : I teach the basics, then expect you to get behind the wheel whilst I guide you. You will make mistakes, and discover new methods or skills, but you are doing the work. I don't expect students to be 'spoon fed' or to say "just tell me what to do", as that makes them lazy & ignore the concepts of actual learning. I show you how to do something, then I expect you to try : I practice what I preach, and never ask any tutee to do something that I can't do myself. The brain is a muscle, and problem-solving skills are needed for a life in the real world. I'm also not one for homework, as I believe that just practical 'playing around' will help them learn better.
Sometimes, IT / Computing can be thought of as being boring, nerdy, and too technical - Forget about all of those words : I use humor, and filter through all the rubbish that you don't need to know!
"My son told me that he learned more from your first tutor session together than he ever did from his teacher in school!"- [Doing 'A2' Computing 'A'-Level]. Mr S. Ali.
"We hired Nick to work with our 55 year old mother, who brought a laptop and never used it for 2 years due to fear. Since my mum began working with Nick her confidence in her ability to use the laptop and browse the Net etc has increased… dramatically! My mum has commented to me that Nick is an "excellent teacher". On the basis of the above I would recommend Nick." - Samantha C.

"Nick has an aptitude for understanding students that makes him stand out from the thousands of freelance graphic, web designers and lecturers out there. He pays close attention to what you say during consultation sessions and tries to capture the essence of your requests. It was an absolute privilege to have been taught by this man. I am where I am today because of him." - Diari Mustafa.
