I am a PhD student studying Ancient History and Classics, specialising in political philosophy. I am flexible with lessons and am qualified to teach and mark at an undergraduate level.
For the last three years I have tutored students on History, Politics and English. I have experience with AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards gaining many tips and techniques to collect the easy marks, as well as tapping into the hard ones. I am very pleased with the progression all my students have made, normally jumping at least one if not two grade boundaries and are now all looking seriously at universities to continue the subject. We have also been able to establish a strong academic understanding of the subject matter, rather than simply passing the exam. Hopefully this will serve them in good stead for future education, career development and most importantly their personal interest in the subjects.
I feel tutoring should provide a firm academic structure when creating essays, while also adding a context to the tutee's existing knowledge. History is a subject that requires extensive reading, and many texts can feel impenetrable without guidance. It is also very easy to loose marks if essays or assessments do not follow an academic structure regardless of the individuals knowledge of the subject. Therefore by concentrating on these factors I would aim to provide a faster and more comprehensive understanding of the reading material, while maximizing the student's grades during any assessments.
