Health / Social Care
A native to Bangor, County Down, I entered the teaching profession in 2007 following my completion of an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Statistics. In 2012 using my experience and skills developed through teaching, I entered the Health and Social care profession at deputy management level and begun to provide support and guidance to Health and Social care and Social Work students within a practice environment.
Currently I am a fully qualified professional within Health and Social care. Based within psychiatry I support the young and old with special educational needs to achieve their aspirations as well as supporting student Social Workers during their placements within the Trust.
From 2007 I have post-graduate and practiced experience of Mathematics teaching and tutorage in England and Northern Ireland, working with both Primary and Secondary school aged children and young people in the Bangor, Bath and Nottingham area. I have extensive teaching experience working with the Mathematics curriculum from Primary (KS1 & KS2), Secondary (KS3, GCSE and A-level), both from the Northern Irish and English examination boards.
I particular specialism with the CCEA/AQA mathematics curriculum from Primary to Secondary. Including additional and further mathematics.
My approach centres on patience and supportive approach to learning, designed to develop a fundamental and in-depth understanding of curriculum requirement and subject topics.
All tutor contact is designed to meet the needs of the student.
Generally one contact session will include:
• 10 minutes preparation to learn
• 20 minutes of learning discussion
• 5 minutes for a reflective break to consider the learning
• 20 minutes monitored practical application
• And concludes with 10 minutes reviewing the learning for the day.
Adult learner sessions and double tutor sessions focus on the monitored practical application and as such are more demanding of the student’s concentration.
Each session will focus on an assessment and review the understanding and competence of the student, their strengths and areas to develop as well as supporting the growth of their confidence with the subject and within themselves l.
This educational model sets and develops the learning environment for the student so as to engage them in the lesson, level their knowledge, practically demonstrate that knowledge and review and reflect on that knowledge for future learning. This approach dovetails with the school lesson model and has been seen to enhance the student’s knowledge and skills for examination and general academic ability.
