There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone realise their potential. I understand this needs to come from a variety of approaches and through 1:1 tutoring a personalised learning programme can be established and provide the right direction to achieving that potential. As a mum of two young children, as well as many years of teaching, I feel I can provide that direction.
I have 9 years of teaching experience in both the state and independent sector, with six of those years as Head of Department. I have also been an examiner for many years on both GCSE and A Level papers, for different exam boards. I have recently been working with an exam board on the new A Level specification as a Resource Developer, and therefore feel I am very much in touch with the current specifications, as well as the changes which are ahead. I have tutored GSCE and A Level students with great success. I believe my degree from the London School of Economics and my PGCE from the University of Oxford, has set me in good stead to be effective practitioner.
I have an in depth knowledge of the exam requirements and therefore focus largely on exam technique, in relation to content. Whereas I would like to think if a student is developed in to an all-round geographer, then they will be fine, I acknowledge this is not the case. At the end of the day, a student needs to know how to answer the question, as well as the required knowledge. With my vast teaching experience, I understand the need to establish a student's preferred learning style, as well as the need to keep it varied and relevant. I'm sure the best of us struggle to concentrate whole heartedly for a whole hour!
