Personal Description:

I am a qualified English teacher pouring my blood, sweat and (happy) tears into the profession. I have a First Class Honours degree in English Literature and was graded as 'Outstanding' during my PGCE year. The only thing that I love more than English is sharing my passion for it with my students. I'm committed to doing everything I can for my students and believe that I am a very friendly, affable person.

Tutoring Experience:

I am currently teaching in an 'Outstanding' secondary school with a sixth form. I have experience of teaching English Language at GCSE and English Literature at GCSE, AS and A2. As it was my undergraduate specialisation, I feel most comfortable with English Literature and am able to tutor pupils within this area to a high degree up to A-level. Whilst I am very comfortable teaching English Language at GCSE, I would not be comfortable tutoring students for the Language A-level.

I have the most experience teaching to AQA's specification and have been teaching to the new AQA specifications (GCSE and A-Level) for a year and a half. I do, however, also have experience teaching WJEC Language and Literature at GCSE and will be more than happy to research other exam boards if you need me to.

Additionally, my job as a teacher means that I have significant experience with one-to-one and small group tutoring sessions.

Tutoring Approach:

It is my belief that tutoring should be an exchange, rather than a lecture. I will always take time to discuss with the student where they think they need to improve as well as, based on my own assessment, where I think that work needs to be done. I believe that any teaching should be adapted to the specific needs of the individual and my approach to tutoring considers this. Students' progress towards their goals is constantly monitored and both my approach and lesson content will change with the student.
