Personal Description:

I am a third year medical student and I will be providing a tutoring service alongside my friend Lynette, a fellow third year medical student at Peninsula Medical School in Exeter. We are both enthusiastic, friendly and approachable people. Due to our course and its clinical aspect, we are both practised in upholding a positive and patient attitude to work, and also others.

Tutoring Experience:

Both Lynette and I have had experience at being tutored personally, and fully acknowledge the unique requirements of each student, and how some tutors can fail to accommodate to each pupil's need. Therefore, we feel that we can provide a successful service based upon our own past experiences.

Between us, we have been tutored by many people in order to try and achieve our maximum potential. Because of this, we feel confident in being able to adapt to each individual's learning style and abilities, focusing on helping them achieve their maximum potential through one-on-one individual development. Something which can sometimes be overshadowed by large group teaching.

As we are both medical students ourselves, we can appreciate and understand the difficulties applicants face in attempting to get into medical school. Because of this, we are both happy to offer tuition sessions to students who wish to pursue medicine. In order to maximise their chances, we will provide help with the following: advice on personal statements and reviewing it before submission, practice interviews and education on hot medical topics, information on any entrance examinations e.g. UKCAT etc.

Tutoring Approach:

Unlike more traditional tutoring services, whereby a single individual provides the tuition, our sessions provide greater flexibility. Subjects will be split between both of us, with the option of having both of us present during the sessions. Even though tutoring sessions will be provided by two tutors, the price will remain the same per hour for tuition.

With regard to new tuition, great appreciation would be felt on our part if you would be kind enough to contact us a week in advance before you wish to start tuition so that we can prepare fully in order to provide the best service. This can include topics, the option of having one or two tutors present, etc.

In terms of the session structure, we will provide an interactive approach to studying, focusing on the way the individual learns best and enhancing their methods of learning. In particular, we will emphasise the importance of active-recall, with "pop quizzes" at the start of each following session to see how much the individual has understood previous teachings. This allows us to see both where the student is struggling and where our own tuition methods can be improved. Additionally, we will happily help the student to create efficient revision notes that they can use in preparation for their exams. If the student so wishes, we will provide specific exam preparation sessions in the follow up to the exam itself. These sessions would consist of refining the individuals exam technique as well as working through past paper questions. Furthermore, these sessions would be at a lower rate (£5 less) than normal tuition sessions, allowing the student to get the most out of their time.
