My name is Natalie and I am extremely dedicated to primarily raising the confidence of all the young people I teach and tutor. Most pupils have the skills and ability to achieve the grades - they just need support and faith that they can get there.
I believe I have strong interpersonal and empathetic skills to be able to understand your individual strengths and target areas and work with you to help you improve your confidence to raise your achievement. Our work together is as a team and I hope that by the end of each session, you will be more motivated to succeed.
I am a highly experienced teacher of Sociology/ Psychology with five years teaching experience at an outstanding school and sixth form college based in Barking and Dagenham, Essex. I have a particular passion for raising achievement and aspirations in disengaged cohorts and have successfully done this through the design and delivery of varied, engaging and interactive activities, which capture and sustain students’ interests.
As a consequence of such successes, and ‘outstanding’ lesson observations, I was promoted to Subject Leader within two years of qualifying to teach. Within this role, I implemented successful tracking systems and reward schemes, which raised confidence, motivation and attainment levels for my department.
I now mentor trainee teachers and deliver professional development for AQA by delivering workshops to other teachers on the creation of 'outstanding lessons' in Sociology.
I believe very strongly in tailoring sessions to the tutee's needs - some students prefer visual aids to learning and others prefer to learn through discussion and talking through material and essay questions. In summary, sessions are pupil led.
I focus heavily on checking learning and understanding throughout each session so that students have a sound understanding of their levels and play an active role in designing targets and action plans in meeting them.
To ensure a successful outcome for students I focus heavily on helping students with essay writing structure, applying their knowledge specifically to exam questions and under exam conditions and creating revision tools catered to the subject skills and content.
With examination board experience, I am more than happy to mark student essays and provide grades and feedback on a regular basis; I believe this is essential for students to track their own progress and meet targets for development.
