Personal Description:

Hi! I am currently in my fourth and final year at the University of Exeter, graduating in July 2017 with a predicted 2:1 BA(Hons) French and Spanish with proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.

In my third year, I opted to take an Erasmus year abroad in Spain (6 months at the Universidad de Cordoba studying medical and technical translation) and France (6 month internship in Paris). I have attended numerous language schools (Institut Linguistique alpha.b in Nice, Mester in Salamanca and the Dante Alighieri Institute in Siena) and achieved level C2 (CEFR - mastery or proficiency) in both French and Spanish.

In my final year, I have selected modules in Advanced French and Spanish Language Skills, Medieval French Literature and Spanish Cinema Under Franco.

I am originally from Holywood, Northern Ireland, where I studied A Levels in French, Spanish and History at Sullivan Upper School. My A Level texts were L'Étranger - Camus and Como Agua Para Chocolate - Laura Esquivel so more than happy to offer help in those in addition to general language assistance.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored several students in GCSE French and Spanish (CCEA syllabus) and I also spent two weeks teaching English at the Home of Hope Orphanage in Cambodia.

As part of my Erasmus year abroad, I joined a tandem language program assisting both French and Spanish students improve their level of English.

In April 2017, I successfully interviewed for a place on a CELTA course, a Cambridge University accredited TEFL course, at Belfast International House which I will undertake in August 2017.

Tutoring Approach:

Relatively relaxed teaching style tailored to students individual learning preferences. The most important aspect of learning a language is having the confidence to speak it (even with a few mistakes!) so I devote a lot of time to oral practise with lots of encouragement along the way and regular updates on students' progress.

For A Level students, further time will be devoted to perfecting more complex language aspects as well as essay writing skills.
