I graduated from the University of Bristol with a BA (Hons) in Music and French in Summer 2016, and am about to begin studying an MA in Community Music at the University of York.
Over the last year, I have enjoyed volunteering on many music education and outreach programmes in Sheffield and the surrounding areas. I have also obtained my Grade 8 violin certificate and my Grade 6 piano, as well as furthering my viola technique.
Over the next year, I am hoping to begin learning German and Chinese.
Outside of music and languages, I also enjoy studying history - especially 20th century and issues of migration and racism, and support my local football club - SWFC.
I am about to begin studying an MA in Community Music, during which I will study further teaching techniques.
In the past year, I have gained a vast array of teaching experience, with various musical organisations in Sheffield and the surrounding areas. This has included work with babies and children of all ages, from 0-18 years. I have led tutored individual students as well as groups of up to around 15 students.
Over the summer, I spent three weeks as a Programme Assistant with the Cambridge International Academy, providing administrative support and pastoral care to a groups of 29 Chinese students aged 16-17.
In my third year of University, I spent 7 months teaching English as an English Language Assistant in the South of France. This involved planning and organising lessons, as well as delivering them. I worked in a secondary school, with groups of up to 25 students.
I think it's important to adapt to each individual's needs and style of learning, using suitable techniques to lead them towards their own particular goals.
In teaching languages, especially to adult/casual learners and young children, I think the most important aspect is to develop oral and aural skills, as these are the base from which we learn our mother tongue, and are what we use most in everyday life. My own recent experience of French exams allows me to provide an exam-focussed, curriculum-based approach for those that need it.
