Personal Description:

I just finished an undergraduate degree in Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, and will be commencing my Master's in Cambridge as well this Fall. In the long run, I wish to pursue a career in research in either Pure Maths (something like Category Theory or Algebraic Number Theory) or in Theoretical Physics (Quantum Field Theory, maybe?) .
I grew up in both Dubai and Mumbai, and was educated in the UK, and have tried my best during my education to mingle and come to grips with people from all manner of cultures and backgrounds, and this, hopefully, should allow me to be more approachable and relatable. I think I'm fairly laidback, but simultaneously highly motivated when needed.

Finally, I'm greatly interested in a wide variety of things besides Mathematics ranging from existential literature to New Orleans Jazz to distance running to inorganic chemistry.

Tutoring Experience:

I tutored A-Level and GCSE Mathematics, Engilsh, Physics and Chemistry to about 20 people, so far, primarily in 1-1 arrangements where I was either at their house or at a mutually convenient location.

However, in fact, beyond simply tutoring, I also worked as a substitute teacher for my high-school for a while during my gap year, teaching English and Mathematics at the GCSE and A-Level.

Simultaneously, I also worked as a proof-reader, primarily as far as application essays for Universities and personal statements were concerned.

Tutoring Approach:

At a meeting, a Professor of mine at Cambridge once remarked to me that what truly impels people to enlightenment is not merely knowledge, but the way that knowledge is conceived, learned and thought about.

To that extent, it is not merely the knowledge that's important, but how it's motivated, how it fits in with their world-view, what its perceived applications, merit or beauty are and so forth; I have striven to keep this in mind during the course of my own education and it has benefited me greatly, and so, I try and inculcate this sort of thinking in my tutees. To

The principal example, to my mind, of failure to motivate knowledge is the way Mathematics is taught in schools, and that is what has lead to the mistaken distaste and widespread fear of the subject, and I would like to be part of the effort that illustrates to people that not only can knowledge, and in my case Mathematics, be useful to pass exams, but that it can be an enlightening, beautiful and thoroughly satisfying endeavour.

Further, I do not believe in merely handing answers over but in fostering independent thinking and development, in a way that should benefit my tutees not only as far as their immediate education is concerned but also in all the vagaries of life.
That is, to try and inculcate determination, resolve and resourcefulness.

Simultaneously, my experience in Cambridge has made me wary both, of complacence as well as of lack of ambition. And to that end, I try and strongly encourage an attitude of continual self-improvement both in myself and in my tutees, and that it is only pushing ourselves that we can truly realize our aspirations.
