Personal Description:

I have been educated to a Ph. D level in synthetic organic chemistry and have done a post doctoral fellowship in Organic Synthesis at the University of Nottingham in the UK. I have published 7 international papers in chemistry in peer review journals. I have also majored in mathematics and physics at University and enjoy an A-grade in University Mathematics during my first and second year. I have worked in the chemical industry for many companies over 15 years and my industrial experience in chemistry bridges the disciplines of prostaglandin synthesis, polypeptide and protein synthesis, stereoselective synthesis, instrumental chemical analysis including UV, IR, MS, GC, NMR, and HPLC spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques. I enjoy to share and equip my students with the practical aspects of chemistry and physics as the insight gained in these topics can only come from industrial experience. It has to be remembered that science in essence is a practical subject and academic performance in science is directly proportional to insight into scientific principles.

Tutoring Experience:

5 Years experience in chemistry and mathematics tuition at University level in South Africa where I completed my Ph.D in chemistry at the prestigious University of Stellenbosh in South Africa. Four years experience in the tuition of chemistry at GCSE, AS and A-2 level in all examination boards inclusive of OCR-B (Gateway and 21'st Century Science), Edexcel, AQA and well as IGCSE (Cambridge). Four years experience in the tuition of mathematics from Key Stage 3 to Core 1-4, Statistics S1, Decision Mathematics D1 as well as AQA (Use of Mathematics). In physics my 3 years experience entails tuition from IGCSE level, GCSE, as well as AS physics in all examination boards inclusive of AQA, OCR-B, and Edexcel. I do not teach physics at A-2 level as I prefer to focus on the other subjects taught. In addition I have 3 years experience in the tuition of Biology at GCSE and AS level in all of the above examination boards. I enjoy mathematics, much of my time spent is looking at and solving complex mathematical equations and a solid mathematical background does help to more effectively do chemistry, physics and statistics.

My recent (2015) GCSE results for mathematics includes 1 A grade, 1 A*, 2 -B grades, and one student improving from a U-grade to a C-average. My GCSE science Higher Tier results include 5 A-grades, a B-grade, and a C-grade. Gratifying again was a student improving from a U-grade to a C-grade. My A level results include 1 A, and 3-B grades in A level mathematics and 1-A grade, and 2-B grades in chemistry. Both B grades were very high where both my students just missed an A grade. In chemistry two of my students achieved the highest accolades (marks) in their practical assessments at Godalming College, and Peter Simmonds College respectively. I am very proud of the results my students achieved.

Tutoring Approach:

I simply care about my students and care about their future aspirations. For me it is not about me in tuition, it is about my students and their dreams and their aspirations. Nothing is as rewarding for me as to see my students perform and achieve the grades that makes them realise their dreams. I guess I like to see people happy, therefore the reason I teach. Money after all comes and money goes.
