I am an economics teacher with over 15 years of experience. I have worked as a senior leader specialising in teacher training and improving teaching and learning in schools. I have in the past worked as an economics and business education examiner for several exam boards.
I possess a MSc in Economic Policy and Finance from SOAS and an NPQSL from the National College for Teaching and Leadership. As an experienced teacher and a member of the SLT I have trained and mentored several Economics teachers over the years. I now wish to focus on Private tutoring and bring in my many years of my experience on a one to one basis for students who wish to excel in Economics.
I have worked in top performing schools for 15 years. Previous to taking up a senior leadership role I was Head of the Economics department. In all of the schools I have taught and led the economics department I have had success in getting my students above their target grades with the majority achieving A and A*s in GCSE and A' Level.
As an experienced examiner for Edexcel, OCR and AQA I am well versed in in what exam boards are looking for. From this experience, I can really help students with exam technique and help them improve their exam grades. I have always been very passionate about teaching and about the study of Economics. This is why as the lead for Economics in my school I have used innovative ways to instil the same passion for learning and understanding Economics in my students. I will be using the same innovative methods and exam skill practise methods in my tutoring to help students excel
I have over the years also tutored many students right up to university level.
I tailor my lessons to suit the students learning ability, learning objectives and style. I use assessments to identify the abilities, strengths and areas of improvement for all of my students as a starting point. I get my students to understand the academic element of economics by making the lessons enjoyable, practical and relevant so as to engage them. I use different teaching methods to help them better understand the different topics in the curriculum. My methods include extensive use of questioning, encourage students to wider areas of reading, use of mini-white boards to better understand and explain diagrams and graphs, examination analysis and evaluation skills, the use of model answers and responses, writing frames for essay questions, tailor made notes and reading, writing and revision materials for all students.
I also provide my class resources and interactive resources so students can work at their own pace outside of our scheduled time. I regularly set homework and provide feedback to parents/guardians with a comprehensive analysis on how the student is progressing. I encourage students to ask questions and my teaching philosophy is one of learning without limits and to be confident in ones' abilities.
