Personal Description:

I grew up in Japan, attending an international school until I moved to the UK when I was 8. After moving to the UK, I went to Francis Holland School and started Wycombe Abbey School age 11. I received 12 A*s at GCSE and 3 A*s at A level and now in second year of Medical School at Cambridge University. I received a First in the first year examinations, coming 10th in the year.
I will only be able to tutor in person during my holidays. Currently I am free from the 8th to 30th of September. However I can tutor over Skype/Google Hangout from 8th of September onwards, during term time as well.

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience with teaching students of a range of ages. I have acted as a teaching assistant for a year at a local community school, helping Year 11 students, while preparing five students for 8+ and 11+ common entrance exams during exam time. I have also volunteered in Japanese and French bilingual nurseries, working with pre-school age children, ages 2-4. Aside from academic teaching, I have coached some children to swim at our local pool as part of a charity organisation.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a very student-focused approach to tutoring, targeting their weaknesses while developing their strengths. However the most important part is encouraging students to enjoy their subjects so that they can build their confidence and begin to work more independently. I hope that by finding key areas that interest the students and exploring beyond the curriculum, students can start to see the relevance of what they study in real life and apply their knowledge in different situations. Not only will this help with the more challenging questions in exams, but it will hopefully help life-long learning.
