I'm a very experienced teacher of English and have a passion for my subject. I've been teaching for over 24 years and worked in several schools around Enfield, Barnet, Hertfordshire and presently Essex, both in state and in an independent school. I've had additional roles in my schools, these being Head of English and Head of Year.
I have also been tutoring for a few years now and worked for a tutorial company for over two years and worked with primary as well as secondary school students. I am able to teach English from KS2 to KS5.
I also worked for several weeks in a primary school to broaden my experience of Literacy and found this very rewarding.
Currently I am KS4 coordinator and have oversight in implementing the new changes within my department, as well as supporting the deputy head in running the department.
Experienced teaching English from KS2 to KS5. With GCSE, I have taught GCSE English with most of the exam boards: AQA, Welsh Board, OCR, Edexcel and IGCSE. I have also taught Functional Skills and Key Skills in Communication.
I have experience working with students from the ages of 7 to 18.
I love working closely with children and take my role seriously. I enjoy the challenges and rewards that teaching brings, particularly when tutoring students who lack confidence and feel they won't pass their GCSE and then see them getting excellent results.
It's really about inspiring and giving those students confidence. My approach is to assess my students, using data from their school reports and feedback from their teachers and parents Using this information, I would plan my lessons to be manageable and challenging, to ensure that progress is made, with lots of exam practice.
