I am a creative and experienced English tutor, with First class BA and MSt degrees from the University of Oxford. I draw on a strong academic record in my teaching, combining this with a personalised approach to my students.
I specialise in English language and literature with students ages 8 and above, including GCSE and A-Levels, as well as American SAT and AP English exams; I further coach both UK and US university applications, interviews, and portfolios, with special availability for Oxbridge mentoring.
Whether you need detailed practical support in studies and exam preparations, or more general guidance in essay-writing, close-reading, and creative writing, I am always pleased to tailor my approach to the needs of my students.
I have been teaching in both a professional and informal capacity since sixth form, when I first worked as an assistant History teacher to year 9 students. Since then, I have gained experience tutoring a wide range of students and subjects, including 11+, 13+, A-levels, and adult study for English as a second language.
Every student learns differently and brings their own concerns and interests to their studies. I believe that there is no single, codified system to fit all students, and a key element of my teaching is in getting to know each individual as we progress through our lessons.
In my experience, confident and successful English students are, above all, strong in the courage of their convictions. My role is to combine a detailed and personalised practical approach to lessons with friendly and calm encouragement. By varying between written and spoken analysis, prepared work, and in-session exercises, I develop a holistic approach that nurtures the individual's entry into the subject. I also provide periodic written assessments, to help guide the progress of the student from week to week.
If you would like to book a trial lesson with me, please send me a message.
