Online Chemistry Lessons

Hello, my name is Mike.
I've retired from full-time teaching and now work part-time as a tutor for A level Chemistry. I taught in a variety of schools and a sixth form college. I have recently been an examiner at GCSE and A level, and an author/editor of educational materials at these levels and beyond. In 2005 I was admitted to the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Fellow.

Tutoring Experience

2011-Present: Tutor in A/AS level Chemistry for all examination boards.
2002-2011: Head of Science & Chemistry at Woldingham School.
1999-2002: Head of Science at Oxted School.
1982-1999: Teacher, then Head of Science & Chemistry at Reigate College.
1976-1982: Teacher at Cheam High School.

Tutoring Approach

My ideas about teaching Chemistry are straightforward.
Chemistry is a challenging subject; it's my job to make it interesting.
You need to know lots of facts; it's my job to make them clear.
You need to understand some difficult ideas; it's my job to explain them.
Finally, you need to see how to use your knowledge and understanding to get good marks in examinations; it's my job to give examples and encourage you to practise them.
All I'll ask from you is that you find the time and enthusiasm to follow up my lessons effectively. I'll help you to get the best grade you can.
I give my students access to all my resources, located on my GDrive. I encourage my students to contact me with any problems they may have between our lessons. I can usually resolve these through a brief email exchange.
I now conduct all of my lessons online using Skype; my students have found this very efficient, and effective.
