Hello, my name is Mike.
I retired from teaching at the end of June 2011 and now offer my services as a tutor for Chemistry at A level. I have worked in a variety of schools and a sixth form college. I am a GCSE and GCE A level examiner and an author/editor of educational materials relating to Chemistry at GCSE and A level. In 2005 I was admitted to the Royal Society of Chemistry as a Fellow.
2011-Present: Tutor in A/AS level Chemistry for all examination boards.
2002-2011: Head of Science & Chemistry at Woldingham School.
1999-2002: Head of Science at Oxted School.
1982-1999: Teacher, then Head of Science & Chemistry at Reigate College.
1976-1982: Teacher at Cheam High School.
My ideas about teaching Chemistry are straightforward:
Chemistry is a challenging subject; it's my job to make it interesting.
You need to know lots of facts; it's my job to make them clear.
You need to understand some difficult ideas; it's my job to explain them.
Finally, you need to see how to use your knowledge and understanding to get good marks in examinations; it's my job to give examples and encourage you to practise them.
All I'll ask from you is that you find the time and enthusiasm to follow up my lessons effectively. I'll help you to get the best grade you can.
Why not try online lessons using Skype? Using the 'share screens' option and my graphics tablet, everything I write will show up on your computer screen and you will see me face-to-face in a smaller window. It's nowhere near as impersonal as you might think!
To help cover the cost of buying my contact details I'll only ask £20 for your first lesson with me.
