Information About Michelle - Mitcham tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Michelle:
I have a passion for teaching and enjoy seeing the progress that children can make, I have two children and it was when my eldest started school that I decided to train to be a teacher, I signed up with the Open University completed a degree and then attended Roehampton University to complete my PGCE (Primary). I am currently studying again with the Open University for my Masters in Education.
I enjoy cycling and enter into cycling events throughout the year, I love to read and hope that I can encourage children to enjoy books as much as I do.
I qualified as a primary school teacher in July, 2011, in 2016 I was promoted to Assistant Headteacher (out of class), however I decided this year to go back into class and teach full time. I am currently a Year One class teacher.
I have previously been a 'year group leader', 'physical education subject leader', 'literacy subject leader' and 'EYFS & KS1 phase leader'.
I have been on courses for primary literacy, including moderation meetings, I am trained in the year one phonics screening test, and I have previously been an 'Early Years moderator'.
Each child is unique and needs their tutoring to meet their needs, it is important that the child works well with the tutor and that a good relationship is built from the very first meeting.
I believe children learn best by exploring and completing activities and not being talked to for too long, therefore as I do in the class my tutoring will be broken into sections of teach, practice, apply, revisit. This approach will help to instil what has been taught, check that it has been understood and that it can be applied in the future.
