I believe every child can develop a love of language and literacy, and enjoy supporting the development of learners academic potential. I hold a BA Hons in English Literature and since graduating have been working as a Copywriter and Editor within the charity and publishing sectors.
I have one-to-one and group based learner tutoring experience spanning Key Stages 2 - 6, and take an enthusiastic approach to learning. I offer tutoring from foundation to GCSE and A Level English.
As a former Classroom Assistant at ACS International School, Hillingdon, I supported two classes of children (aged between 5 and 9 years) in the enhancement of their language skills, spelling and grammar. Using language games, rhymes, quizzes and group activities, I made learning English a fun experience, the positive impact of which was evident through the academic progress and improved ability of those I supported.
Many of the children I worked with at ACS International School had English as a second language, so I was conscious of tailoring my methods to suit the level of the child regardless of their age and Key Stage.
When working with young children who struggle with letters and writing I use play-based techniques such as colouring in letters, alphabet books, letter blocks, magnets and making letters out of playdough. These interactive methods helped children become familiar with letters before starting to write.
I can offer reading support to help children build confidence in their ability to identify and sound out words. As a lover of books, I find it a pleasure to inspire reading in young people.
For older learners I can offer tuition with more advanced with comprehension, grammar and language skills, as well as guidance across long-form written work such as essays, projects, presentations and coursework. Essay structure is something I specialise in, and through tutoring I would help your child develop and frame their written work in a way that is clear, directional and meets grading criteria for their Key Stage.
My professional work involves running writing workshops, and this skill is something I would enjoy offering your child.
I am happy to meet with prospective learners and their parents for 30 minutes free of charge prior to commencing tuition, giving the opportunity to decide whether the support I can offer would be suitable.
Through a tailored and individually devised approach I am better able to support your child in achieving their academic English language goals - raising their confidence in tackling academic challenges while at school and placing them in a strong position in terms of future academic performance.
