I am a 45 year old maths tutor about to finish my first year of secondary maths teaching after a career change. I have excellent grades in A level Maths and Further Maths and degrees in subjects with high mathematical content. Having tutored several children of friends and colleagues to good GCSE and A level grades I am now offering Maths tuition at all ability levels up to and including A-level further maths.
I have tutored several young people to success in GCSE and a level exams, and supported several adult learners to pass numeracy tests and deal with the mathematical content of engineering degrees. I am about to finish my first year of secondary maths teaching after a career change
I believe confidence is the key to success in maths, and many students struggle with the confidence they need to solve maths problems due to difficulties they have had previously. Practice is the key to maths mastery, particularly in those topics the student is struggling with and lack confidence in. Therefore my approach is to identify the topics where attention is needed, explaining from first principles the knowledge needed to understand the topic, and then working with the student to practice maths problems in those areas. Initially this will be assisted problem solving and then gradually moving towards independent problem solving. Students will be provided with worksheets to complete between tutoring sessions to test their understanding and mastery.
