Information About Michael - Wandsworth tutor
I am a hard working and supportive Primary Classroom Teacher with 2 years successful teaching at Key Stage 2. Up until 3 years ago I was a senior manager in a major FTSE 250 company. Desiring to achieve something more 'meaningful' with my career I retrained as a Primary School Teacher. I possess a numerate bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying and a marketing MA. In the world of work I spent 13 years working for global companies where I received extensive experience in business strategy, managing people and life coaching. I enjoy keeping fit and love cycling, running and hiking. My outwards bounds experience from the army reserve's Honourable Artillery Company will be of interest to adventurous cub scouts and brownies. Watching documentaries is a hobby of mine as I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
I have two years experience teaching in an outstanding', Ofsted rated, primary school in SW London that ranks highly in 'The Times' 2013 Nationwide Top 200 Primary Schools by KS2 average results over the past 3 years. From my time in business I have many transferable skills such as, setting high expectations, analytical skills and a focus on getting results. In my first year all my students made the expected 1 sub-level of progress in the year and all but 3 made 2 sub level's progress. I am on track to achieve similar in my 2nd year. I lead the numeracy planning in my year group and take an active role in planning literacy.
I approach each child as a unique individual with talent to be unearthed. I get to know a child's interests and focus on their strengths, using that knowledge to make lessons interesting and challenging whilst building their confidence. I am passionate about literacy & numeracy. I approach the subjects with infectious enthusiasm. I use extensive assessment in order to target my teaching on the areas where the student needs to progress and strive to ensure the tasks set are progressive yet achievable. Believing all work should be fun, I endeavour to make all work enjoyable. My warm personality, sense of humour and patience is consistently mentioned by my pupils as a reason they enjoy my lessons. I use creative approaches that capitalise on the various learning styles that learners possess such as visual, kinaesthetic and through speaking & listening to name but a few. I know that your child will not just see these lessons as something to endure but something they can truly enjoy whilst making progress in their learning and achievement.
