Personal Description:

I have been working in theatre for over 25 years and have a wide range of experience that is relevant to tutoring. I have worked with people of all ages and all levels of ability, and have spent a particularly large part of my career working in youth theatre, developing techniques not only for developing acting skills in their own right, but also developing the delivery of drama techniques as a tool for the personal and social development of participants (self confidence). I have been the Artistic Director of Shrewsbury Youth Theatre and West Lothian Youth Theatre, Regional Development Coordinator for the National Association of Youth Theatres in the West Midlands, and Chair of Promote-YT, the national agency for the development of youth theatre in Scotland.

Tutoring Experience:

My experience in youth theatre has allowed me to teach (using non-formal learning techniques) in a range of settings and styles:
* acting workshops for children and young people of all ages
* drama projects in primary and secondary schools
* acting workshops for young people and adults with learning disabilities
* drama as a tool for confidence building, communication skills and team building for adults
* continuing professional development courses for theatre workers, teachers and youth workers

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is totally centred on the student, adapting my approaches to both their learning goals and their existing skills and experience. I have a range of techniques that I can use and am ready to tailor each lesson to the needs of the student. Given my background, I am able to work with all levels and all ages, and to focus on:
* drama to build the self confidence of children and young people
* school curriculum drama and other drama qualification
* coaching of monologues for auditions
* public speaking
