Firstly, my first name is polish, and I prefer my second name which is Michael. Secondly, I don't speak polish, sorry to disappoint!
I am a twenty-four year old Masters' student, living in the Selly oak area of Birmingham. My current degree involves producing models of proteins using computer programs, but my undergraduate degree was in Biochemistry, giving me an in-depth awareness of both Biology and Chemistry, which I learnt during my A levels in the two subjects while growing up in Leicestershire.
Throughout my time at University, I was involved with a scheme where I was employed by the university of Birmingham, providing one-on-one tuition to local A level students from small heath sixth form. Last year, I was part of a PGCE course at the University for Cambridge for eight months; while I felt I was not the right fit for large-scale teaching, I still find small group teaching and one-on-one tuition very enjoyable, which I can now deliver with the experience and resources of my PGCE experience.
I will be taking on a small number of tutees, so I have the ability to tailor to my pupil's strengths and weaknesses, and how they learn information. After that, equipping pupils with techniques that help them learn is just as important as the information itself. Using physical objects and visual prompts is also something I found to be fundamental during my time teaching.
Pupils learn best when they enjoy themselves. Therefore, when I am tutoring I am always striving to keep the tutee feeling like they are making progress, not being patronised, and feeling interested in the subject they are learning.
